What is online learning? Online learning is  an education that takes place over the Internet. It is often referred to as “e- learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning” – the umbrella term for any learning that takes place across distance and not in a traditional classroom. How is the online learning in the Philippines? Was it accesible?convenient?

Various government across the globe have launched a crisis response to mitigate the adverse impact of the pandemic on education. Revision of policies, and different modalities were provided  for the learners to cope with this new normal. Here in the Philippines, online learning was also introduced as a very convenient means of learning. However, it was a challenge to the teachers and students. Trainings and seminars were attended by teachers in regards to online learning. They were trained for months and good to know that they were able to adapt on different LMS (Learning Management Systems). But the struggle was experienced by the students. Some students without reliable internet access and/or technology faced difficulties in participating in digital learning; this gap is seen across countries and between income brackets within countries. Some were the following challenges faced by online classes; poor internet connection, audio clarity, outdated device and software, system glitch, short attention span, poor peer communication; conflict with home responsibilities and poor learning environment. These are just some of the most common issues that students have encountered during online class. But this must not be a hindrance for us to continue to learn and to grow. Let us take it as a challenge that will serve as an inspiration for everyone to respond in this pandemic.
