Educational technology is the avenue for global transformation and connectedness in education. Indeed, education has advanced radically through technology. Nevertheless, for teaching and learning to reach every milestone it needs to enhance and progress, the field of research known as educational technology looks at the process of analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the instructional environment, learning materials, students, and the learning process.

Certainly, educational technology is vital because it enables teachers to incorporate new technologies and tools in the classrooms. There is constant need to facilitate a learner-centered classroom and enhance it with sustainability, hence, teachers ought to be expert in maximizing the benefits of technology. Technology is progressively expanding and changing the way things are done in all fields. Although education is one of the last fields to make extensive change, holding on to antiquated methods and practices, nevertheless, through the digital transformation and the rise of educational technology, teachers have started making transformation to standards in instruction, assessments, even the physical make-up of classrooms, and at a much faster rate than expected.

Incontestably, advancements in digital technology has created game-changing opportunities in the world of education. Technology enabled educators to interact with learners in distinctive, original, and fair ways. Technology in the classroom changed the traditional teacher-centered learning environment into one where students are more actively engaged in their education. As the students participate in and work through the lesson of the day in a student-centered classroom, the teacher takes on more of a mentoring and facilitating role. Moreover, it allowed teachers to connect with other educators locally, nationally, and internationally to broaden their networks which empowered teachers with collaboration and shared experiences and ideas.

Another noteworthy contribution of technology in education is providing teachers and students with access to a variety of educational resources that inspire creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. Specifically, it promotes inclusion and the development of digital literacy skills; it extends learning beyond the text – and beyond the classroom walls; it ultimately exposes students and teachers to new online global communities which in turn promotes a global awareness, which is an essential component to a 21st century education. Additionally, differentiated instruction has been made much easier. With differentiated instruction, students receive a personalized education that meets them where they are in their developmental process. This kind of training enables more students to gain more from it. Students have access to precise learning materials outside of the classroom because to the use of technology. Further, it is important that students use resources in the classroom that will best prepare them for their future academic and professional endeavors – this includes both current and old technology. Students who are exposed to technology in the classroom develop the abilities necessary to use the wide range of online resources available today. Additionally, it gives teachers the chance to teach learners about digital world and the new difficulties with academic honesty.

According to education technology pioneer David Warlick “educational technology is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world”. Likewise, I must say, education technology is the present and future of education. We can only look ahead of us. Teachers as facilitators of learning need to embrace the immense contributions that technology can give especially for the learners. Gone are the days when teachers are spoon feeders of knowledge to students.  There is a need to prepare, and equip both teachers and students for the rapidly evolving digital landscape in the global ecosystem. That is why various scientific and technological advances have made it imperative for schools to reinvent learning methods and techniques.

The technology driven education system promotes an immersive, integrated, student-focused, team-based, and analysis-driven pedagogy with the goal of fostering learner’s holistic development. The use of technology is crucial in accomplishing these goals. Teachers and school administrators must use technology as the primary tool to mold the future of learners if they are to stay up with the digital transformation taking place around the world. For better learning outcomes, schools should integrate cutting-edge technology like augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) into the curriculum. These modern technologies are thought to represent the future of learning and education. It is necessary to use technological devices, techniques or achievements that employ the most current and high-level information technology developments; in other words, technology at the frontiers of knowledge.
