When the teacher begins the lesson, the elements of teaching and learning come to life. Here is where the teacher opens up her own self before the students, her character of mind, creativity, enthusiasm, enjoyment of teaching, imagination and other traits. The objective of teaching is not only to help the learners acquire content knowledge but also lead the students to create something new and fresh outputs, to understand life, together with the attitudes and values by which they can live life in all its fullness.
The art of teaching and the personal qualities of a creative teacher contribute to effective teaching. The teacher takes with her to the classroom the following elements of the teaching – learning process.
- 1.The teacher brings her own self to the classroom. A teacher may have full mastery of subject matter and methods of teaching, but has to recognize that in teaching, she should make a difference among her students. A teacher does not only help the students acquire knowledge but must bring values and attitudes to the interaction created inside the classroom. The very essence of teaching centers on the values and attitudes develop among learners. The knowledge they gain help them understand life, but the values and attitudes they capture make them live such life.
- 2.Learning in the classroom extends to the wider world. A teacher should provide a laboratory of learning experiences which will prepare students with the real qualities and greater consequences of life. This must be employed with greater concentration so that the characters of the learners will not be affected.
- 3.Teaching is a creative art. Teaching makes something from an existing knowledge. A teacher must make every lesson a meaningful and enjoyable one through spontaneous, improvised efforts of the mind and spirit. Make a child loves learning and not hates burden of school works.
Remember, a teacher is an important ingredient who spices up the educational life of the
learners. Make teaching and learning a sweet delicacy and not a bitter soup of knowledge.
A creative teacher will produce creative learners ready for a creative life.
