Integrating information and communications technologies (ICT’s) in education is a generally accepted belief and a commonly held wisdom.  Governments and organization all over have invested huge amounts of resources in developing programs and initiatives aimed at promoting the use of ICT in education.  And as a worldwide investment in ICT in education reaches well into the hundreds of billions of dollars.

Studies and research conducted by the Department of Education have confirmed the positive impact of using ICT in education.  Significant improvements in student learning and achievement as evidenced by considerably higher test scores have been observed along with the development of key learning skills and behavior such as higher order thinking and independent learning.  ICT has also been shown to motivate students to attend classes regularly and engage in learning tasks, making them active participants in the learning process instead of being just passive receivers of information.
