It is a well-known fact that when there were no televisions or computers, reading was a primary leisure activity. Reading is very important to develop the academic skills of an individual. It is the foundation used to measure a person’s success in academics. It is also more important than wealth or social background in improving a child’s future socially, psychologically, and academically. This is because most of the subjects being taught to us are base in reading, synthesizing and analyzing the information.

 Reading opens an opportunity to create a world that is yours through unleashing your creativity. It takes man into the world of thought and imagination, an adventure which enables him to acquire a clearer, deeper understanding of reality. Whether you like fiction or non-fiction is not important, but whether you like reading or not is!

The right time to inculcate good habits and values in a person is his childhood. The foremost requirement here is that the parents themselves understand the importance of reading at home. Reading to a child is one of the easiest ways to prevent future learning problems, and yet many people do not fully understand the enormous, positive impact that this simple act has on the life of a child. If they themselves don’t know why it is important, it won’t be possible for them to inculcate this habit in their children.

One can understand that people have become very busy with their day-to-day work, but that is not an excuse for neglecting your children or not inculcating good habits in them. The habit of reading is one such habit that is bound to be of a great help for your children in the end.

Reading yields great benefits; it is a fact that cannot be questioned by anyone. This is the reason one has to understand the importance of reading and writing, and be well versed with these activities. In this world of competitiveness, it is always advantageous to amass vast knowledge, and there is no better way to do so, other than reading. Therefore, it is high time you find a cure for bibliophobia – fear of books, especially thick books, and dive into the world of literature you like to read.

The habit of reading helps them to discover the answers to questions about existence.Other than this, reading also improves the person’s vocabulary, command on the language, and communication skills. Reading is said to significantly help in developing vocabulary, and reading aloud helps to build a strong emotional bond between parents and children.

The children who start reading from an early age are observed to have good language skills, and they grasp the variances in phonics much better. It is observed that children and teenagers who love reading have comparatively higher IQs.

They are more creative and do better in school and college. It is recommended that parents to inculcate the importance of reading to their children in the early years. The habit of reading also helps readers to decipher new words and phrases that they come across in everyday conversations.

The habit can become a healthy addiction and adds to the information available on various topics. It helps us to stay in-touch with contemporary writers as well as those from the days of yore and makes us sensitive to global issues.
