Generally, after teaching quality, the most powerful factor determining school success is leadership. Highly effective schools need highly effective leaders. When designing and implementing school improvement programmes we always seek to ensure that school leadership plays a central part in the proposed reform. Our stakeholders asked us to work, not only with the subject teachers, but also with the school leadership so that they could take ownership of the intended changed approach. In this case, we have been delighted to work with clients with a particular commitment to a view of school leadership that emphasises leadership of learning. Our expertise in leadership development also extends to school governance and the work of school boards. School boards are an often neglected component within the education system for we have focussed on strengthening the role of school management.
In line with best practice, we always emphasise the need for external stakeholders to be developed simultaneously with school self-evaluation systems such as effective training programmes to build the capacity of school leaders in improvement planning and systematic internal monitoring and evaluation.
