Scouting is an education for life, fun with a purpose and key to character building directed towards helping boys and girls become happy, healthy and useful citizens. It also helps children embrace adventure and succeed in life and furthermore fosters personality development of the students and helps them imbibe a sense of social responsibility. To become disciplined and courageous, and are in forefront during critical times, also develops in them.

Scouting develops self-knowledge and the need to explore, to discover, and to want to know. Scouts discover the world beyond the classroom, tapping the skills of others to learn and to become well-rounded people.

“Character is important, but it does not start and end with the school bell”, says The Scout Association. The consensus building around the importance of developing resilience and character education to young people is welcomed. However, it is important to recognize that character education does not just belong in the classroom – far from it. We need bolder thinking to bring schools and organizations such as The Scout Association together in partnership, not assertions that the development of young people starts and ends with the school bell.

Through recreation, Scouting achieves its purpose of helping young people develop physically, intellectually, socially, and spiritually. Scouting is all about building confidence and self-esteem, learning important life skills and leadership skills, team building, outdoor adventure, education, and fun! Scouts learn how to make good choices and to take responsibility for their actions so that they are prepared for their adult life as independent persons.

The scouting program is just as important now. It is the perfect outlet for today’s youth and it can help them overcome some of the obstacles in their paths and lessen their interest to new-fangled electronics. Scouting will also teach them the values of community, work ethic and leadership, which sometimes ignore in school or in many homes. And through scouting, according to Narciso, (2012) will help guide our youth to set examples and become leaders rather than being involved in drugs or other bad decisions.
