Even if the organization has been properly staffed and the workers have been trained to the point where they are quite capable of doing a good job, the manager’s work as a director of people has really just begun. The fact that his subordinates can do the job well does not mean that they necessary will. There is always the possibility that the quality and the quantity of their work may fall short of targeted objectives.

Basically, it is recognized that virtually all workers are capable of doing a better job, or a poor job for that matter. When properly motivated, they will do a better job. If negatively motivated they may do a poorer job a well-directed effort by a manager will produce better results than simply letting nature take its course.

Motivating is not an easy task. Any hint of insincerity or deception by the manager will quickly disillusion workers at any level and any hope of positive motivation will vanish.

Hence, manager should be trained in the skills of listening, understanding and eliciting cooperation, so as to meet the challenges of times and make education more responsive to the clientele it serves.
