Student teaching is one of the requirements of the Fourth Year college students taking up Education. This is the most critical element of their preparation , likewise is the time or best opportunity where student teachers can apply the research, theory , and best practices they have learned in their university classrooms.
This school year 2016 – 2017 my Student Teacher is none other than Ms.Abegail R. Gabriel , she was my former student way back . 2010., this situation made our relatiobshipeasier because we are familiar with each other . As her cooperating teacher, I have so many plans for her. I have to be her role model and mentor and has great influence over her learning experience. She tends to adopt my practices and my way of dealing my students. I encouraged her to ask questions , to think for themselves and to share what they observe about the classroom and to try other methods and strategies they have learned with which I have not familiar with.
Being a cooperating teacher is one of the most exciting yet challenging role of a teacher. We should not just instruct our student teachers , but also to support and nurture them..They have to feel loved and appreciated so that they can also treat their students the same way. We have to provide them sound advice about some teaching tips, deep knowledge about students, provide them with pertinent information about the school policies,classroom rules and procedures. The student teachers should familiarize with all the forms, reports and everything that teachers are responsible for keeping .
Practice teaching does not end in the four corners of the classroom. The Student Teacher should showcase what they have learned though Demonstration teaching . In our case, my Student Teacher scheduled her Demo Teaching last March 7, 2017 and Iam proud as her cooperating teacher and mentor because she made it with flying colors ! I would say that i am lucky to have Ms.Abegail R. Gabriel as my student teacher because she made my work lighter and easier.
