Families play an important role in the education process of their children, with particular importance given to ensuring that they have good reading and numeracy skills. The importance of parents’ involvement in the promotion and development of children’s reading and numeracy skills is examined in this short article, which highlights how they can have a positive effect on their level of learning and progress at school.
Parental involvement is an important trigger for the success of a child’s reading and numeracy skills. Parents can significantly increase their child’s learning progress if they create a culture of literacy, participate in common reading experiences, encourage independence as well as numeracy and foster collaboration between parents and teachers. Ultimately, the investments of time, support and encouragement from parents will create a strong foundation to lifelong learning, enabling children to succeed in both school and life through their love of reading and numeracy.
