The Reflection of the Unborn

Ever heard of the reflections or thoughts of something you have never laid your eyes on? The thoughts of something that is unborn as it was actually laid in front of you? The mind of the unborn is filled with screams and shouts.

As the system changes, or as I would like to say, as the system upgrades, so does the curriculum, for when it is the Philippines we are talking about, we never settle for less, our country settles for the best.

The President, His Excellency Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino, signed the K-12 Bill and finally made it The Republic Act 10533, also known as, An Act Enhancing The Philippine Basic Education System By Strengthening Its Curriculum And Increasing The Number Of Years For Basic Education, Appropriating Funds Therefore And For Other Purposes on May 15, 2013. The Department of Education, together with the efforts of different Government firms which are mainly concern with the system of the Education in the Philippines, finally made what was initially impossible, possible. The curriculum was then changed immediately after the news about the agreement was released among the schools in the Philippines. It was changed from the basic to something more extravagant, different and well, upgraded than every Filipino student and as well as parents ever expected. But that is not the main concern of the matters inside the mind of the unborn, definitely not.

The greatest concern inside the mind of the unborn is the presence of the unknown, the presence of something they never expected, the presence of something that shocked them, and almost shot them right between the eyes though it was really laid in front of them for some time. The presence of the change and the difference they felt as they travel along a more different path or high school, a longer path.

A student under the changed curriculum felt a lot of anxiousness. It is a new ting for them to enter high school with six years instead of four years. It is not just a new thing but also, a huge adjustment for them. Well, to tell the truth, most of them expected just 4 years and are wondering what the other 2 years are for. But as days pass by, the impact of the new thing in high school, slowly evaporated together with their anxiousness. Even the fact of having new friends and new experiences has an impact of changing the atmosphere for the newbie’s, since form then, they actually do not want to end their path along the roads of high school. But, not expecting that all the shock ha banished, of course, some of the nerves and fear still remains, for, they are starting to have an idea of what comes together with their new found friends and new built experiences, which are, new additional subjects, and more unknown adjustments.

But as the students try to lessen the fear, their parents are starting to figure out ways. They are figuring out ways to build bridges to help their children run across the path of high school, not just through moral, but also through financial support. But as their children take small steps at a time, they are adding more foundations unto the bridges straight to success, of course it is hard. The change in the curriculum actually took part of the great adjustments Filipino parents are working with. It took part with the list of ‘what to worries’ but of course; the changed curriculum is not just all about 6 years budget but also, a part of ‘huge leap to success’ list.

What concerns the unborn result of the K-12 is how their future in high school would be and how it would affect ‘college’ for them. These are reflections inside what you haven’t laid eyes on, reflections that necessitates a voice to be heard.
