Several discussions are centered on whose role it is to make the necessary changes and reforms and how the much-coveted quality of education among our learners could be attained. It is indeed that our government policy makers definitely play an important role in school reform. Since many of the school policies in the public educational system come from higher educational authorities can make a difference in the system.
One important criterion is on the standards being set. Standards to be implemented should be clear and precise. One example of such is how we would want learners to develop critical thinking skills. Policies should be set clearly so that teachers would know what to do. Tests to be given to learners should also be clear.
Policymakers indeed face the challenge of developing and implementing a system in which they have direct and indirect control of its key component such as the content standards, the makeup of the tests and other modes of assessment. However, without active advocacy, support and refinement, there would be little chance for these initiatives to enhance the educational experiences of children.
They are given also the highest regard and respect in relation to school reforms. Since they are experts and know what is best for the Filipino learner, educators depend on their discussions within the classroom setting. Hence, policymakers should innovate and adopt themselves to the needs and trends of today’s learners.
