Teachers play an important role in pupils’ learning and achievement. Teachers are required to impart knowledge to pupils, keep track and evaluate their progress and provide experiences for continuous development. Once they produce successful and productive pupils, the development of the organizations follows.

            Teachers have to prepare to face the challenges brought about by the changing times. They have many roles or contributions that lead to effective, efficient, and productive development of the organization. One of these important roles or contributions is being a researcher.

            Teachers handle information and resources. Researching skills have improved greatly and teachers need to develop skills associated with effective research – observing, analyzing, experimenting, and making decisions. Action research involves a form of reflective self-analysis developed by teachers to improve teaching practices. Classroom is used by teachers as a research laboratory to gather data on students’ background, characteristics, performance and quality of students’ interactions. The purpose of action research is to put teachers in charge of their profession and its improvement.

            The teachers’ role as a researcher is very natural considering his/her daily observations and interactions with his/her students. Teachers need to take the initiative for keeping themselves informed about important educational developments and research findings. Teachers need to integrate their own experiential knowledge with the research outcomes.
