“LIKE, COMMENT, SHARE, TAG, UPLOAD, DOWNLOAD, And SEARCH”- These are words that we usually hear nowadays. Since we are now in “Techie Generation”, meaning the use of high- tech gadgets and devices emerge rapidly and the access and sources of information can now be easily gathered. Well, be thankful that Internet and Social media were born! Most of the Filipino people from young ones to the old ones are “hooked” and “always connected” on the Internet and surf known Social Media every single moment. So, as a saying goes, “Use Life on Its Full Potential”, knowing the fact and good to know, Internet and Social Media can be Effective Tools in Teaching.
Yes, these two can be effective tools in educating the children to be more knowledgeable, more open and aware in the current trends and concepts in a certain subject matter. Besides, Internet and Social Media provides a wider horizon and opportunity for the learners to be more competent and hungry in searching for further knowledge. It also provides computer literacy on the student and building up their Social/ Interactive Skills towards their colleagues and other people. There are a lot of things that Internet and Social Media can offer. This proves that these two can open doors and opportunities to everyone and to heighten up pupils’ Higher Order Thinking Skills.
Besides, Internet and Social Media can be an effective avenue to have an interaction between the teacher, the students and their colleagues in order to impart or share their thoughts and ideas toward a certain discussion and to share their opinions and insights regarding that. Studies show that many children nowadays are very knowledgeable in operating those gadgets and devices like tablets and android phones rather than to read a book or to memorize or recite a certain poem line. So let us maximize the use of these gadgets for more effective tool towards learning and preparedness of students as responsive and interactive yet enthusiastic and productive citizens of our country.
