The first parent-teacher conference of the school year provides a great opportunity for you and to the parents to share insights and information about children. But does parent-teacher conference make you just a little nervous? Does it seem like they never turn out the way you want them to? Here are some tips that will help make the Parent-Teacher Conference run smoothly.

  1. Mark down who comes and take down notes. Note taking is hard while you are trying to talk and make an eye contact, but with so many people coming and going, it will be more difficult to remember accurately what happens.
  2. Do not talk about other pupils or other teachers. A professional educator does not engage in gossip, judgment or complaints about other human being.
  3. Make specific suggestions as to how their child can improve performance.
  4. Always start and end with the positives.
  5. Select the most important points to be discussed and prioritize you concerns.

Parent-teacher conferences should be viewed positively. These enable the parent to gain vital information about their child and how he or she is doing in school, both academically and socially. Conferences are also a time when a teacher can learn more about the child is in his or her class.
