Every teacher wants to have organized and disciplined students. In every class, there is always a learner who tends to behave improperly and who are not working or paying attentions to the lessons given by the teacher. This is why teachers executed some classroom management strategies in order to ensure that all learners are actively involving themselves into learning and for the prevention of disruptive behavior; that students behave properly toward other students.
Here are some classroom management tips to help teachers enhance prosocial behavior and increase academic engagement of learners.
1. Give Students Freedom of Expression
Every learner wants to express themselves the way they want it to be. Teachers usually want their students to listen to every discussion, in another way around, students also wanted to be heard. Let them feel that they can also share their thoughts and reactions regarding any topics or issues concerning their lessons. Give them time to talk and accept their ideas especially if it is relevant and can be of help for the discussions to become fruitful one.
2. Always Look At Your Students
Learners who see their teachers not looking at them are the ones who usually do something disruptive. If teachers move around the classroom and face their students, the more focus will they be. Let students see you. Position yourself where most students are visible to you and you are also visible to them.
3. Always Check Homework
One of the best strategies to develop study habit among learners at home is to provide them homework. In this case, you can also easily determine students who have supportive parents when it comes to education of their children. Parents must also be part of their learning. Once the student was given an assignment, part of it must be guided by their parents. They can ask their parents’ help to accomplish their tasks. In return, teacher should give credits in terms of grades or incentives to those who did their homework.
4. Establish Rules and Regulations
At the beginning of the school year, teachers and students must set some classroom rules and regulations. One of these should be about the consequences about misbehaving. Once students learn that there will be consequences for misbehavior, they will surely behave in class. Teachers should be strict in applying these consequences.
5. Give a Heart to Your Students
Teachers are considered as the second parent of the students. Once the students are inside the classroom, think of them as your own children. If they feel that you care and love them, they will surely give respect to you in return. They will show good manners and right conduct as what they give to their parents. Let them feel they are belong to the class and impart to them unity within the classroom. Their classmates are their brothers and sisters. In this case, nobody will show rudeness and prevent negative actions to others.
By managing the classroom properly, teachers and students may have an ideal learning environment and have a safer and happier learning.
