Every now and then we get to work with one or two annoying co-teachers, or that principal from hell. While you probably cannot do anything to change these persons you can do much to cope with the demands of dealing with them.

Here are some tips for dealing with them.

  1. Identify problem-people-they come in all shapes and sizes the backstabber, the meddler and the instigator, the gossiper, the credit grabber and competitor.
  2. Beware of bad bosses-whether you like it or not they are in charge. So get along with your boss.
  3. Assess your situation-try to understand the situation. Take a step back.
  4. Take concrete action-some things will never get better if you just let things pass.
  5. Don’t let the problem fester-Quick action will prevent you from addressing the situation when you have become so angry with a person that you lose objectivity and emotional control.
  6. Safeguard your reputation-if you persist on complaining about the situation, others might see you as whiner. Even more tragic, they may end up blaming you for this and other problems.
