Questioning is one of the basic steps used by the teacher in the actual teaching- learning process. But how can a teacher be an effective and proficient questioner? The following tips are suggested:

1. A teacher should ask thought- provoking questions, pupils are motivated to think      or react if the questions thrown to them are interesting. Avoid throwing leading                      questions.

2. A teacher should avoid asking pupils in alphabetical order or row by row which         may result to not paying attention of the pupils.

3. A teacher should ask questions in a well- modulated voice. Pupils think easily if        questions are delivered in a natural voice, thus, avoiding nervous tension on                   the part of the pupils.

4. Questions should not be repeated to challenge pupils` attention. But if a pupil does               not understand the question or has a hearing difficulty, the teacher has to repeat the

  question.

  1. Pupils should be given enough time to think before calling anyone to answer the       question so that each has a chance to formulate answer before anyone will try to           answer it.
