What makes a good teacher…..This is question  which every young person who contemplates to become a teacher must fully consider. A great deal has been said of teaching as one of the most important profession from the stand point of human welfare. Properly understood, it is also one of the most technical, difficult and challenging professions.
School is our second home and we, teachers, are the second parents. But let us reflect on the current changes in lifestyle among families, where both parents are often busy working and children are left  to fend for themselves. So, people are lucky indeed to have a second home and parents to turn to for protection and support. The implication of this is that; the tasks of a teacher is complex and many-sided and demand a variety of human traits and abilities  and competencies. It is a task that calls for an  assessment of one’s own personal qualifications and a genuine desire to improve students’ skills.
Successful teachers have shown that the teachers’ job  is not solely to the transmissions of knowledge and information. Some modern technological devices such as teaching machines,
t.v.,films, computers, internets, gadgets, etc…. Can do that. What is most important is the teachers’ influence in promoting the development of basic skills, understanding work habits, desirable attitudes, value judgments and adequate personal adjustments of the learners. It can be said that teaching is effective to students if the  teacher acts in ways that are  favorable  to the development of a desirable personality  in the learner.
Teachers’ major task is to guide learning, but he has also other responsibilities. Among these are sharing responsibility in counselling and guidance, sponsoring extra class activities, working with parents and the community and observing professional responsibilities.
A teacher must always remember that his word is a lamp that guides students feet and a light for their path.
