With up surging need to improve the quality of education in the country, the elementary curriculum was restructured. It is now called the 2002 Basic Education Curriculum or BEC.

The restructured curriculum aims develop and enhance the spiritual, moral, mental and physical capabilities of the learner, provide him with experiences in the democratic way of life and inculcate ideas and attitudes necessary for enlightened, patriotic, upright and useful citizenship. However, the attainment of these objectives is not possible unless the teachers are resourceful, dedicated, knowledgeable and have understanding and appreciation of the teaching profession.

On the other hand, teachers have been provided with prototype lesson plans based on 2002 BEC for every grading period in five learning areas to maximize their time and effort in teaching and in preparing instructional materials. Regular supervisors is being done to monitor and assess if the objectives in 2002 BEC are properly implemented. In addition, improved distribution of textbooks, references and supplementary reading materials is being worked out to make learning-teaching process more interesting and effectively.

The success of the implementation of restricted curriculum lies on the hands of the teachers, school head supervisor and parents as well. So, let us lend our all-out support to 2002 BEC towards a more quality and competitive education today and in the coming years
