Technology is rapidly developing across the country. It is the most-liked invention of the new era. It makes work lighter than the usual that is why many people are fond of using it. It provides us the necessary machine, equipment, or method to make every day living easy and productive. Technology is an unlimited need that people cannot escape. It answers most of our problems and it facilitates our daily life activities. Each of us has to have an access to different technological advancements. Without it life can be very dissatisfying.
Take the mobile phone as one of the educational trends. According to Julie Evans from 2013 Speak Up Survey from Project Tomorrow, most kids don’t use traditional computer to connect to the internet. She added that video for homework is on the rise and mobile computing is “beyond the tipping point”. In the Philippines, most students are also using this kind of technology. They install applications like scientific calculator to compute in Mathematics and video maker to create a project presentation on the subjects like English and Science. With this technology, parents are easily called when teacher has a concern on student’s behavior and academic progress.
Another trending technology is using video for classwork and homework. Teachers find an easy time delivering the lesson through video presentation using LCD projector and laptop. They find it more interesting to the learners and can catch the attention of all. Through this technology, interactive learning is very evident between teacher and student as well as student to student interaction. When teachers give an assignment, students are accessing video online to help answering their homework. This is very useful among learners, because in the video there is an explanation on the topic that is why it is easy for them to understand. There are also instructions given.
Gaming is rapidly increasing and gender gap is abruptly closed. Students are actively engaging into games whether male or female student. In some instances, females showing more gaming activities than males. Their gaming devices are laptops, cellular phones, and tablets to play games. Up to dates games are downloadable, therefore access is very easy. The advantage of gaming is that students’ opportunities to explore are widen. Experience and learning in gaming can also be applied in knowing difficult concepts. There is also no evident of gender gap, because males and females who are playing games become good friends. Sometimes they form group to identify themselves. They even celebrate its anniversary and meeting on special events.
The increasing interest in online learning becomes popular when the 21st century period begins. Many people are enrolling in an online tutoring; especially those who want to learn English language. The demand for online English teachers has ballooned. Educators also enrolled in an online post graduate school studies. Complete modules with exercises are available in different websites on the net. The availability of learning contents and guide questions are ready, therefore learning becomes available any time as long as you have an internet connection. The boost of internet connectivity is probably the trending of all technology in any fields. Many want connection at home for them have an access on what is happening worldwide. Students like to connect at home, because they will visit their favorite sites and social media accounts. Teachers should also have an access on this technology, because the connection will connect them to advance learning.
Technology is very useful and powerful at the same time. It makes life easier, but sometimes becomes harder when improperly handled. Remember not to abuse different technologies, because these are not absolute.
