Bringing out the best in your students does not take magic or just being popular. There are effective and tested ways to become the best teacher because you are able to bring out the best in your students. Here are some of them:

  1. Encourage high expectations. When you encourage your students to expect high from the class, from you, and from themselves, you help them to do the best they can. Set challenging goals for learning together. Work out the expectations orally and in writing. Setting consequences for unfinished work can be helpful for them to be more responsible in finishing tasks.
  2. Encourage students to write and speak well. Becoming fluent and eloquent writers and speakers help students to express themselves better and aid them towards better career opportunities in the future. Engage them in various activities and exercises that can help improve their writing and speaking skills not only in the English language but as well as with the native language.
  3. Discuss with your students class progress. Make them feel you see and appreciate their efforts. Help them out with the areas they find difficulty and guide them to learning these areas with ease. Then, with those they find easy, appreciate their achievements and encourage them to excel better in further improving their learned skills and knowledge.
  4. Create study groups and project teams where the students can improve their leadership, cooperation, and creative skills. Their communication can also be enhanced through these groups. By giving clear instructions on a specific task and giving them deadlines, the students can become more responsible, resourceful, and develop their skills in working in a team.

While you do your part as a teacher in improving and getting out the best in your students, you will soon find how being prudent and patient with them so they maximize their full potentials can lead you to keep on improving yourself as well to becoming the best teacher you can be.
