As students take in a major change towards their academic standards called K-12 curriculum starting June, it is indeed necessary to add 2 years to our basic education. Thus, this will benefit the students for getting into the best universities and the best jobs after graduation.
Students tend to undertake an advance series of education, making them adjust to some difficulties that K-12 might bring. The purpose of K-12 is to enhance a student’s academic skills and provide a good quality of a 12-year basic education program to maintain the right quality life a student must have in the future but this is not the only purpose that K-12 has to bring but more importantly to enhance the basic education curriculum of the students.
On the contrary, some are against the K-12 curriculum and demand for the old system to make a come back. As some families can’t take up the financial needs that their children have to take in order to graduate but K-12 means harm but an assurance for students to successfully fulfill their dreams.
One of the advantages of this new educational landscape is to achieve out a change within a student’s poor performance and turn it into a good performance. Philippines ranked the lowest in 2008 even with only the science high schools joining the Advance Mathematics Category. So, in order for Philippines to make a change it is necessary to apply K-12 from now on the Philippines is the only country in Asia that uses a 10-year basic cycle.
An urgent need to enhance the quality of basic education is seen as Filipino students are often being compared with other students. As we crave for knowledge, it seizes our heart’s burning passion to discover more than before. As our education improves we must too. If eagles can soar high then we are going to ride those big flapping wings and prove to everyone that we can soar higher than an eagle. We’re going to take up the challenge and change the future.
