Education is simply developing the process to learn, unlearn, relearn and apply. Its real purpose is to make minds, not careers, according to William Deresiewicz. However, as time passed by, our view for education has changed.
We strive so hard to listen to our teachers, do well on our exams — all for the sake of having high grades. Sometimes we even try to step on other people in order to be in the top. We are so fed up with the thought that we have to study hard to have a good job and a great life that we forget to put into our hearts the things that we learn.
Our life is just a process of learning, unlearning, relearning, and applying the things that we’ve learn in our high school or elementary class: we’re going to forget them. And when we reach the point that we have to choose a career, we have to relearn the things that are necessary. We need education in order for us to develop that process.
Aristotle once said that “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” We should take into our hearts the things that we learn and maintain a good attitude. No matter how far we go in life, we should always have the desire for learning and stay humble. Education is a powerful weapon and we are soldiers; together, we can change the world.
