Education is not an education unless its aims are delivered effectively. Others called it the “passion for teaching” or the “heart of teaching” Whichever things it was called, true education is the education of the heart and the mind.
To become an educated person, both character and intellect should be at the utmost in person. A person does not become educated because of his degrees alone. In the education of the heart, the character is strengthened.
Filipinos having been moral creatures and naturally tame people, have more inclination towards values. Such values are an important element in our culture being Filipinos. In the culturing of the mind, an educated person brought about success in itself by inculcating values. Values are determinants of character- if the Bible or the Qur’an serves as a guide for morality. A virtuous student creates favorable characteristics- trustworthiness, dedication, determination, diligence, patience, hopefulness, and love among others. However, he often forgets one of the most important components of education: education of the heart.
Aristotle said that “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” It means that the children’s emotions should matter more than their knowledge of geography, language, or mathematics because these emotions will serve as a driving force for their personal development and will lead them to happiness (Degwitz, 2018).
In other words, education has parallel routes-towards the mind and towards the heart. Education of the mind is through the intellect and the education of the heart is through morals.
Aristotle claimed that the combination of these creates a person of excellence.
