As Graduation Day approaches, the call of meetings to parents of graduating classes become frequent. Consultation with the parents on what to do, what to prepare and how much would be spent on this important day in their lives as parents as well as their children studying in public school is given of prime importance. It is a memorable occasion where parents would see their children march on stage with pride because after six long years of burning eyebrows, the diplomas that they would hold in their hands would be the strongest proof of their achievement.
Lucky are the graduating pupils not covered by K-12 program of the department since spending or adding another year in their studies would also mean additional expenses. It is a known fact that parents who try to make their both ends meets usually send their children to public schools. Budget wise speaking, sending children to public schools would mean lesser expenses compared to private schools where workbooks and more recreational activities offered take edge over public instruction.
The question of quality of output enters when contributions are being sought from generous hearted stakeholders in public schools. Is voluntary contributions really necessary for quality output in public schools? The answers may vary from different people depending on how they perceive expenses being presented unto them. If the expenses are reasonable and of necessity, then voluntary contributions is necessary like for example paying the water and electric bills on time to avoid power disruptions and inconveniences on the part of pupils and teachers, supporting different competitions and others. If there is also transparency on the proceeds of funds being raised, it must be supported. However, if it is the other way around where no practical importance could be taken from asking voluntary contributions and no transparencies shown, voluntary contributions should not be supported. With these some ideas presented on the importance of voluntary contributions in operating public schools, the decision on whether to support the voluntary contributions in public schools or not depends on the stakeholders perceptions. After all, voluntary contributions always spring from the generosity of hearts of people who always would like to help uplift the quality of education in public setting.
