We all know that the school can consume a large amount of water every day because of the tremendous number of enrolees. To conserve the water use, the school principal should assign a Teacher Coordinator who can implement a program for water conservation. This includes a checking of faucets and toilets if there are some leaks.
Providing some rules and regulations are also important and that should be followed by the pupils and teachers like:
* All pupils are obliged to check their toilets if the faucet has already closed before they leave the room.
* Secure the faucets at the drinking water area after using it.
* Use a container in watering instead of hose.
* Reduce outdoor water use.
* Water should only use during class hour.
Another idea where the school can be done is connected to the utilization of water at the canteen and vegetable garden. They could install a big container at the back area of the kitchen. This container can be served as the water catch basin that coming from dishwashing area so that the water supply to the garden would be enough for the whole day. It can be noticed that the irrigation system is effective because it helps the plants to survive from drought, tolerate the damage and fend off the plant disease.
Some outdoor water tips can also be done in school such as:
- Apply mulch around the plots to reduce evaporation, promote plant growth and control weeds.
- Add compost or an organic matter to soil as necessary, to improve soil conditions and water retention.
- Collect rainfall or water from dishwashing area in a screened and covered container (to prevent mosquito larvae growth).
- Always use a broom to clean walkways, covered court and entrances than hosing off these areas.
- Only water the lawn area when necessary.
Hence, water conservation program would become very effectual because if it is properly implemented in school.
