Teachers continue to apply good qualities and values in their work with respect to their job satisfaction and good performance, and in which in the long run will lead to their success. There are different traits that will continue to be possessed and to be applied by a teacher to her students. One major trait that can be utilized by a teacher in her work is the depth of her earnestness, in other words she must show seriousness, solemnity and dignity in her work.
An individual who is earnest is one who is true to herself, he/she never attempts to pretend to know and to show what he/she doesn’t know, he/she is not ashamed to admit that he/she doesn’t know every issue or topic or project. He/she knows that nobody is perfect. For these individuals, they believe that they have strength as well as weaknesses. For them, the important thing is to apply their strength and admit their weakness. What matters most is the lesson learned from whatever mistakes they made.
If some teachers cannot cope up with one situation, they should admit this at once. For instance, if you are assigned to be the Chairman of a certain activity or project, admit it to the person/s concerned. Say this right away. Don’t let other people believe you can do a project, where in fact, you cannot do it.
Some may say if you decline, No guts no glory! Yes, you may have the guts, however, if you realize the technical know-how to make the task is lacking, then by all means, disclose it right away. This is where the superior will further know you and the truth shall prevail.
If you possess these qualities in your system, your co-workers will be further familiar with you. They will identify you as a person who knows her strengths and weaknesses. May be you have read or heard the phrase “Know thyself” which is a good reminder from famous philosophers who have great knowledge of human nature. Fellow workers will respect teachers because they are cautious in saying yes and decisive in saying no.
In this globally competitive world, we need teachers who are ready to admit their strengths and weaknesses, their mistakes and blunders.
