Filipinos are fond of feasts and festivities. Once a young man kidded that we always have feast of all saints in our country. No wonder that our country is greatly influenced by Catholic faith by the Spaniards because of their more than three hundred-year stay here in the Philippines.

From the start of the school year till the end we always have something to celebrate of, one of the reasons why the  Regional Office introduced the Friday focused group activities which had already been implemented in our division. With the many school holidays we celebrate are we aware of what these try to teach us ?

For the month of June, we have Independence Day where the heroism and bravery of Filipinos are being commemorated. For the month of  July we should not forget July 4 is still Fil-Am Friendship Day although we still attend classes yet the strong link between Filipino and Americans began in July 4, 1946. For August we have the assassination of  ex-Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. where  his bravery to fight oppression of a dictatorial rule became a part of our history. National Heroes Day is also celebrated on the last week of August. For September, we have the celebration of our brother Muslims, removing the discrimination of Muslim faith and other faiths in our country. For October we have the World Teachers Day celebration giving importance to the hardwork, dedication and commitment of Filipino teachers. We also have the sembreak activities for October where learners are given time to take a break for a week  and have bonding time with their families and loved ones.  For November we have All Saints Day and All Souls Day giving time to our departed ones. This teaches us not to forget our roots no matter how far we have reached. For December, we have a two-week vacation with our families before the start of another year For January , we have the Chinese New Year’s Celebration where we respect the beliefs of our Chinese brothers living in our country- the Tsinoys. For February we have the EDSA Revolution as holiday reminding us of Bloodless Revolution wayback  February 25, 1986. For March we have the Graduation Day, for April the Holy Week where we recall the passion and death of Jesus Christ.

School holidays are necessary to remind us that we also need live a balanced life where holidays serve as bonding time with the families aside from inculcating different values gained from participating in different celebrations. School holidays also teach us to appreciate what we have in the past- the rich treasured memories of prominent people.
