Teaching Mathematics is a challenging task for many. As we all know not all students like Math. But a good Math teacher has the power to change that. For students who sees Math subject as not as interesting like any other subject. It may be a reason for boredom and struggles, but a good Math teacher can bring a new life into the subject. There are a lot of tips on how to become effective, a lot of strategies and methods to choose from, but what truly makes a good Math teacher?

Listed below are some of qualities and characteristics a Good Math teacher must have.

A GOOD MATH TEACHER ENCOURAGES

Great teachers provide positive encouragement and explanation for the material/lesson. It is very important to encourage active participation from the students, allow everyone to work in groups and allow everyone to do some board works. Try to explain and not to frown on wrong answers, it discourages students from participating. Remember Math is all about logic and reasoning.

A GOOD MATH TEACHER IS FLEXIBLE

Students learn in different ways and a good math teacher understands that. There are a lot of classroom activities that will lead to learning and be more beneficial to every students. Routinary activities are good, but try to vary activities from time to time. Sometimes students learn through cooperative learning, others are by direct instruction, labs or hands-on. I believe that the mark of a really incredible teacher is being connected and flexible.

A GOOD MATH TEACHER IS KNOWLEDGEABLE

You cannot give what you do not have. A good Math teacher must have an extensive knowledge of Mathematics. This allows his/her to confidently explain the concepts and processes to the students. The knowledge and invaluable skill that a good teacher pass on to the students will be beneficial. Teachers having a great knowledge on the subject matter will lead to better understanding and better retention of the skills discussed.
