What can you do to help your child in school?
There is a crisis in Education. Elementary pupils are graduating illiterates. Teachers are accused of being incompetent. The declining standard of education is becoming a major issue in our educational system. And your children are caught in the middle.
It is too easy to blame teachers, when our children bring home failing grades. While it is true that some teachers are not the most skillful, some children are clearly able to learn from them. And even though many schools do not have the best facilities, some children manage to get an education there and graduate from high school and college with honors.
Why? Because what happens at school is only one part of the education process. You, the parent, also have the vital part in determining your children’s success at school. You may not have realized it, but your children’s teachers want your help. Most teachers take pride in their work. They are competent and dedicated. It is not just for salary or they have no other choice but to teach. Nothing gives teachers greater satisfaction than helping others develop their talents. But there are some things that must be taught at home.
Here are what teachers wish parents would teach their children to help them do better, in school:
1. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO VALUE EDUCATION
Let them know that learning is a way out of endless cycle of poverty that has gripped their families for generations. Teachers wish parents give extra time and effort to teach their child in reading, counting, and help them answering their assignments to show that parents value education too much.
2. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO RESPECT AUTHORITY
Parents who are polite to those in authority, and who show proper respect for their leaders are teaching their childen a valuable lesson that can help them get the most from school. Parents should always make a special effort not to argue and disagree in front of their children. Above all, teachers ask the parents to support them if they have to discipline their offsrpring at school.
3. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO BE HONEST
Parents and teachers should work together to instill right values in children. But if parents undermine the school, the teacher may as well quit, as many do.
4. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO DO THEIR HOMEWORK
Teachers wish parents would cooperate. Try to set aside a quiet place where children can sit and work undisturbed. Encourage them to complete their work on time.
5. TEACH YOURSELF TO COMMUNICATE
Teachers wish parents would communicate with them. Most teachers wish that parents would take advantage of occasional open-house and other opportunities for parent-teacher conferences. Teachers and parents need to work together.
There still thousands of dedicated and competent teachers who have accepted the responsibility for their part in educating your children. But they know they can only do part of the job. They need your H E L P !!!!!!!!
