Hot or Cold? Drought or Snow? Which would you prefer?
Being located near the equator has its advantages. For one, it makes the Philippines a tropical country. We have the best climate suitable for forming our fair weather is often invited by people from cold places. People visit our country to enjoy a magnificent and sunny day at the beach, have fun with nature without the cold weather on their worry list. Philippines would have been the perfect tourist spot if it weren’t for the fact that climate change is slowly taking over the world and one of its “children”, “El Nino”, became the cruel dictator of our country.
What is El Nino?
El Nino is a warm phase associated in an irregularly occurring and complex series of climatic changes affecting the equatorial Pacific region countries near its vicinity, its main victim (e.g. Philippines) and beyond every few years. It is characterized by the appearance of unusually warm, or drought – a long period of time where there is very little or no rain.
Reports are coming in from different regions, that due to very high temperature, the soil has become inadequate for farming. The crops easily die due to dehydration and even on animals. Water levels also decrease because of the high rate of evaporation. In terms of its effects to humans, the high temperature causes people to experience heat stroke, migraine and headaches.
How does one fight off El Nino?
El Nino cannot be stopped or prevented. What we need is to be prepared for this high rise in temperature. Store food, drink plenty of water, take preventive measure against the heat and simply became more aware of your environment.
These are some of the facts and preventive measure you must keep in mind when heat strikes.
