WHO ARE THE LEADERS?

Titles and positions are not indicators of good and great leadership.  Good leadership is not about bossing around and bullying those in the lower chain of the organization.  Leadership is responsibility.  Ironically, those who enjoy leadership titles still do not know how to lead correctly and bring out the best in the people they are supposed to lead.

According to inspirational speaker Francis J. Kong, leaders should act as role models and ready to serve and lead.  Leaders should be competent and confident.  People hate those who show competence as a leader but in reality, is not, by any measure, competent enough.  These people do not delegate tasks but dump tasks and rather than taking the initiative to learn, they rely on their titles and positions to get the people do the work they should, actually, be doing.  Worst, they claim credits for works done by others.  Because they are not competent, they lack the confidence and use their super inflated ego to mask their weaknesses.

Good leaders are transparent, trustworthy and have integrity.  Someone who cannot be trusted cannot be a leader.  Trust builds leadership.  Today’s educational environment requires teamwork and every person in the organization must be able to be trusted by others.  Good leaders do not sell their people.  They can be counted on what to do what is fair and right.

Leaders do not compromise excellence.  Mediocre works are not acceptable to good leaders.  They remain focused on the job and have nothing in mind but excellence.  Good leaders strive to learn more about their work and constantly improve themselves.  They set high standards for their people and encourage them to develop further.

There are other qualities of good leadership.  No one has the monopoly of good leadership.  But it has to be emphasized that good leadership is not a title.  Rather, it is a responsibility.
