In the Science Class, the mental faculty is challenged when hands-on participation is required during laboratory experiment sessions. Conducting experiments makes up the exciting learning segment in school.
The substantial role of experiments is to widen the horizon of learners in terms of gaining knowledge by employing scientific methods in their study. Conducting experiments is not for scientists alone. Some may say that they are mere re-enactments of what has been previously proven in the past. There may be some adjustments in the process but the conclusion will simply be the same. So, what is the need to experiment?
It an accepted fact that scientific theories and laws have given the needed answers to many of life’s phenomenon and their success are based on the result of scientific experiments. Whatever is the outcome of an experimental procedure, the bottom line will always depend on the how the observation process went on.
The main idea is to know that experiments are at the core of scientific methods. It would mean that observation is the sub-set of the other fundamental steps in doing experiments. It is inclusive of establishing the question, forming a hypothesis, the conduct of the experiment, and finally the drawing the conclusion which is about critical thinking.
Observation is an important phase for learners to develop their skills which can go hand in hand in the enhancement of intellectual process that is inherent with them. As reasoning, memory, perception, will, intuition, and imagination are put into coordination, it will enable learners to discover new things for their individual perspective and understanding.
Another important point in experiments is the opportunity to interrogate nature in specific kind of way. With this as a means, the students can be more receptive in observing events that will help them gather relevant information about the situation of interest. In this aspect, experiments help interpret the true nature of a phenomenon in a very objective way which they can also apply in real life situations.
Experiments are the defining moments of science which in essence is the substance of everything we interact with and do almost every day. With this in mind, the K to 12 Program welcomes every learner to make the most of their study in Science as pathway to future discoveries of mankind.
