Article XIV, Section 2 (1) of the 1987 Philippine Constitution states that “The state shall establish, maintains and support a complete, adequate and integrated system of education relevant to needs of the people and society”. The Enhanced K to 12 Education Program is consistent with this article. It seeks to provide for a quality 12- year basic education program that each Filipino is entitled to.
This Enhanced K to 12 Education Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years Basic Education (six years of Primary Education, four years of Junior High School and two years of Senior High School). It means Kindergarten and 12 years of Elementary and Secondary Education. Kindergarten refers to 5 years old cohort that takes a standardized Kinder Curriculum. Elementary Education refers to primary schooling that involves six years of education. And Secondary Education refers to high school. The rationale for this is to provide sufficient time for mastery of concept and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship. That, after going through this Enhanced K to 12 Education Program, every graduate will be ready to go on into different paths – may it be further education, employment, or entrepreneurship.
