Teacher’s life is truly challenging, that a positive teacher must be capable of overcoming it. Here’s five characters of a positive teacher must have:
- ATTITUDE
According to The Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English – attitude is defined as “a way of looking at life; a way of thinking, feeling or behaving.” Therefore, an attitude is not just the way we think, but the way we think, feel and do.
You may have your entire career plan worked out, but if you do not define your attitude to build its foundation on, then before long your plan will crumble. That’s not to say a career plan is not important. In fact, it is very important in achieving career success.
What you need to understand is that a positive attitude is even more important. So how do you defined your attitude at work? For me, to define your attitude at work means deciding the values that would guide me in my working environment.
- PASSION
Passion is an emotion that comes from within you. It is your enthusiasm, your zeal, your drive and your motivation. You don’t want to just feel passionate about your job, you want to put passion into it. You want to apply all of your skills and all of your energy into your work.
Passion does not go unnoticed. People will see how well you do your job and your attitude towards it. They will see even if a task is hard, you don’t give in, you apply yourself even more to overcome it. They will notice your drive and your motivation and consider how you would do in another position
- CREATE YOUR OWN IDENTITY
According to George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones and quoted “Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Amour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.”
- ACTION- WALK ON YOUR TALK
If you do action (you perform) well, the rest will follow more naturally. If the ideas you are promoting are congruent with your core beliefs and values, these actions will come easily, too.
So, start with a deep understanding of “why” you want to see the change or improvement and what change or improvement you want to see.
Make certain it is congruent with what you deeply believe.
- FOCUS ON YOUR SUCCESS
Success is a journey rather than a destination. When you see success as a journey, you will never have the problem of trying to “arrive” at an elusive destination. There is no instant success, every goal follows a step by step process, and achievement is considered success. And you’ll never find yourself in position where you’ve accomplished some final goal – only to discover that you’re still unfulfilled and searching for something else to do.
Another benefit of focusing on the journey of success instead of on arriving at a destination or achieving a goal is that you have the potential to become a successful today. The very moment that you make the shift to finding your purpose, growing to your potential, and helping others, successful is something you are right now, not something you vaguely hope one day to be.
