Teambuilding consists of a wide range of activities starting from smaller to more complex activities not only in the business world, be it private or government entities but also in the schools, sport teams or any organization whose goal is to improve team performance leading to productivity and efficiency.

Teambuilding is an important factor in any organization which specializes in bringing out the best in a team ensuring positive communications, leadership skills and the process of working closely together as a team are put together.

Teams are formed from selecting some people together with different behavior, skills and mental abilities hoping to find a way to work together in pursuing a common goal thus producing efficient, effective and high performing team.

In any team, there must be a leader who will facilitate the team activities ensuring the team goals are met at specific time. An effective leader as well as member must become an effective observer and participant to properly lead and guide the team. Involvement of all members of the team on the specific task will help make the team to accomplish the purpose earlier.

The leader focuses on the system and practices of the team to ensure that all members understand the purpose of the team and their roles in it, all members must be active toward keeping that purpose and knows how to utilize procedures for making decisions in solving problems. The key to team development is that leaders should be direction givers rather than problem solvers.

Empowering the members will help the team to achieve excellence because the members will develop the appropriate skills and knowledge and  the freedom to act in using their talents likewise members will respond both creatively and responsibly. What is important is that  to be fully contributing,  members have to feel free to do so.  Team members feel empowered when they are involved, contributing and productive.

Making the team work together is not an easy task. All teams were not just formed and immediately start working together to accomplish the goal. There are stages of team growth and members must  be given time to work through the stages to become effective leading to achieving excellence through teambuilding.
