Engineering is one of the new subjects that are included in the K – 12 program here in the Philippines. By definition(source: Wikipedia), engineering is the application of mathematics, empirical evidence and scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge in order to invent, innovate, design, build, maintain, research, and improve structures, machines, tools, systems, components, materials, and processes. This education course was added definitely to improve the current education system in our country. There are certain benefits from this education system upgrade that could help the students which is currently undecided in taking up engineering course foreseeing as their career in the future.
The students can improve their learning in math & science since engineering subject deals with higher arithmetic & more complicated science courses. The more exposure to these subjects, the better understanding they could get. Another advantage from this upgrade is that it can increase the pupil’s awareness regarding the engineering sector and the engineer’s field of work. The pupils can get a clear and bigger picture about what would be their actual work if they pursue this course, what would be their responsibilities if they choose engineering as there career. Thirdly, if the students were really enthusiastic about this course, surely it will uplift their interest in pursuing such as their field of expertise. It will just stimulate what already exists in one’s mind and heart. Lastly, since the engineering field deals with technical aspects as well, the pupil’s technological literacy can be escalated. Most of the teachers and instructors have field experiences which are ready to be shared to their fellow pupils.
I strongly believe that by including the engineering subject on the current education system will definitely be advantageous to the young ones of today. Being fully equipped with wits and ideas prior to tertiary level will have a positive effect to our society and consequently to our country.
