It was on second week of December when Grade 12 students of the school I am working had undergone a job interview as preparation for them in entering a job which is part of the mission and vision of the K to 12 curriculum. As we all know, general subjects in college are brought down at senior high school to increase mastery in the part of the students that include MIL, 3 I’s, Research and Entrepreneurship.

It was hot afternoon when I went inside the classroom to interview four students. I didn’t know why I should feel nervous because I wasn’t the one who is being graded. Nervousness is not communicable for me to acquire the nervousness of those students. One student was called to sit down in front of me all dressed with polo shirt, necktie, black slacks and black shoes. My role for that day was the “boss” and the student was the applicant. I guess students are not the only one who can do role playing. Most of my interviews started with the question “What specific position are you applying for?”.  The question didn’t make sense to me until I realize that through that question we can help our students be specific with their goals because we do not just harnessing them for our nation’s sake someday but we also want to develop them all for them. If we do not help them realize what they really want to achieve in the future the tendency is they will lose track shifting from one course or program to another. Second question went like this: “What attributes that give you an edge among other applicants?”. This wasn’t brought up just to teach them how to boast but to let them know what abilities and skills do they have to boost their self-confidence since it is very normal for a teenager to compare himself with others. If our students keep on seeing that others are more excellent than them what do you think companies will be like someday?

More than the quizzes and projects we grade, teachers are guides that will prepare the younger generation so someday they will be empowered for the development and improvement of our nation.
