Verbal and physical abuse towards students either by fellow students or by a teacher is nothing new, but only in the turning of the 21st century did it became known to be “BULLYING”.

Bullying is something that should not be taken for granted. It scars a child not only physically but mentally as well. Being bullied can also result to a long term emotional damage.

In a long term psychological study conducted in America, it proves that 4 out of 10 children who under gone bullying developed a violent and unstable personality as they grow older. The Psychologist explained that subconsciously although the traumatic episode of their lives happened years behind them, they kept that memory hidden and just lurking at the back of their minds. This turns them to a walking time bomb waiting to explode if triggered. To others they ‘consciously’ developed a violent behavior, because in their minds it is their way of getting backfor what happened to them.

Here in the Philippines, there not much studies done in the subject. Indeed in the past years, people have become aware of the truth that bullying does happen. But that is not enough. Knowing that such thing does occur is barely the beginning, in order to resolve the problem an action must be done.

This is where the Educational sector come in, being that the majority of bullying cases usually happen at school, the Educational sector must put their foot down on it. One way to apprehend this issue is to expand awareness of both students and most especially the teachers. There are guidelines that should be kept in dealing with such cases. Conducting seminars would also bebeneficial. But most of all, there should be an unyielding, to make the offenders realize the consequences they will face.

But the harsh reality is that, above all the issues of Education, bullying might be at the bottom of the priorities. Although there are efforts, we are still far to attain the “no bullying” status. If in the greater countries like America cannot erase the problem completely how, how could we?

Bullying will be the shadow that looms over the next generations… unless they shine a little light to it. “After all what best way to kill a shadow…” ―Furious7
