Recently, based on news, the Department of Health organized a campaign with regards to the prevention of teenage pregnancy and HIV among the youth by giving free condoms for High School students. In a way, especially for the opinion spreading in the internet among netizens, will it be proper for the government to give such contraceptives to teens or will it just be another project that would waste money and time? Based on the trending issue, few are asking if it would be proper to give teens such condoms. In that way, aren’t we provoking them to do pre-marital sex? In this side, the government thinks that this might help reduce the booming rate of HIV positives in the Philippines which age brackets are starting at an early age of teens nowadays. How about the LGU’s concerned and the church whom are based on ethical standards, culture and religion which is affected by this proposal? Looking at the other side, premarital sex is really a sin, giving condoms can initiate some teens to do “safe sex” as what DOH aspires, yet on the lateral side, in the Philippines that is commonly a Christian country and being conservative in a way, this issue is definitely unacceptable. Thinking of it, if the government would distribute such condoms, we wouldn’t determine if the teens would use it, if they intend to do premarital sex. Just like free contraceptives given to families among barangays to lessen the population, still we cannot determine if most of these contraceptives are being taken and used. The question now is, would it be based on tradition and biblical laws or will we set aside these factors and intake one possible solution against early pregnancy among teens and lessen those infected with HIV?
