With the many different inventions around, people have become more hi-tech and things have become more sophisticated.

Gone were the days when you would have to spend so much time washing your clothes because now you have the washing machine to do the work for you!

Gone were the days when written communication needed about a month to reach the sender and another month to wait for the reply.

Gone were the days when you would need to go from one library to another to do your research at school.

Gone were the days when everything seemed to be at slow pace and most of our work seemed to take forever.

Today, with just a click, all messages can be sent anywhere, anytime and the messages can even be sent to multiple receivers with just the same click.

Cooking, washing and drying chores have all become fast and easy with the machines invented to do the work for us.

But how does this “teki” environment affect the learning habits of the pupils?

Learners these days also seem to think that everything comes in an instant.

Very few students can now be seen memorizing parts of the lessons or scripts from the book.

Most seem to find memorizing very impossible.

How many of the students in the elementary have memorized the Multiplication table by heart?

So what happens now?

Even 6th graders would still go back to repeated addition to answer multiplication or to count off all their fingers and toes and would still end up with the wrong answers.

Many students find reading very complicated. When you give them long selections to read, some would not care to read up to the end of the selection. Many would not even bother to consult a dictionary to look up for the difficult words – if they cannot understand, so be it. So what?

So what happens?

Many students can read but very few have good comprehension. Others cannot even read, so why would they care to finish the selectionafterall.

Many students have not mastered the basic operational skills, so how do we expect them to like or to persevere in Trigonometry or Calculus?

These and a lot more make this new generation of learners unique but somehow they are beginning to lose the value of the things which are more important and more useful in life.

How far can the technology take them? How far can they last in this world if they have not gained the potential skills and learning they would need to survive the real world?

Life is not always about being online or offline; not just being trending and in-style; not just being easy and instant.

Life is more on learning through experience; learning by doing and repeating the process for mastery.

Life is a true struggle that only people with enough courage, experience and learning can live and survive.
