Gathering of information through mass media has been so well-known since it started to boom in our country in the early 1900s until it failed to become accessible during the Marcos regime. However, imposing of Martial Law was just a temporary occurrence of banning the printed, visual and oral approaches of disseminating important events and we could really attest that its availability had emerged even up to the superlative degree and one of the means is through radio broadcasting.

Categorized as oral journalism, radio broadcasting is not only a useful way of relating current issues because of its immediacy but it has been also a part of the national down to the school level competitions designed both for elementary and secondary contestants through press conferences in the field of campus journalism for many years until now.

Because of this, an English teacher as the proponent of this innovationnoticed theimportance and achievability of utilizing this kind of activity when he applied this to fourth year students that he previously handled and the result was clearly impressive wherein the reporters did not only enjoy the simulation but the students-listeners also benefited a lot because the topics were discussed in the form of radio broadcasting where excitement is also ubiquitous in this process. More so, using this kind of teaching innovation does not require complicated training since students nowadays are very good in manipulating the required devices such as basic software programs and downloaded news sounds or stingers for the technical aspects, portable speakers with microphones for the reporters and other available useful gadgets. As part of the preparation, the teacher-facilitator will be the one to decide on how long each group will do the reporting depending on the variation of the disseminated topics.  In fact, preparing for the script for the reporting through radio newscasting also enhances the ability of the students to observe correct syntax and other disciplines in the subject area.

Reporting topics through radio broadcasting can be applied once in every grading period as a way of generalizing all the topics being discussed by the teacher for the specific quarter. This teaching innovation will not only solve the problem of the students in learning lessons in English and other subject areas in more stimulating way but it is also a motivation for the learners to appreciate and  pursue a career that is related to media and other interrelated courses when they reach the tertiary level and thereafter.
