Lack of knowledge on child’s psychology, lack of sympathy, constant nagging, and scolding are some of the common causes of poor classroom discipline. Teachers are considered facilitators and mentors of students while in school. They should have a sense of superiority and dominance while handling their class with fair treatment among students.
An effective leader must have desirable personal relations and self-control on how to deal with people. One must instil the value of discipline while not taking for granted the academic freedom that each student must enjoy.
In an everyday classroom situation teacher’s passion in teaching and love for noble profession should be evident in daily classroom activities and routines. Surely academic success and manageable behaviour of one’s class will be seen as a result of the teachers’ positive personality, attitude and strong sense of their social responsibilities. While information technology can sometimes seem like a deterrent rather than ally in reading these goals, they can also be effectively employed to help facilitate rather than disrupt the learning process. For example, students can use social networking tools to construct opinion polls, or internet search engines to conduct research.
Teachers of the 21st century have access to host of cutting edge research about how students learned they should be knowledgeable and willing to apply such research to their classroom. They should understand different learning styles of their students.
Students need mentors both inside and outside of the classroom. Arguably this is true today more than ever before, as school violence, drug abuse and other dangers have been becoming more and more common. Teachers need to seriously take their role as both a resource for students as a guide through difficulties of life, and should strive to foster healthy relationships with their students.
Teachers of the 21st century confront the challenges open-up by globalization. Teachers should introduce students to their world, and moreover inculcate in them the sense of their own power to create change in the world. Teachers should not just transmit knowledge to students, they should instil in them a sense of their place in larger world, and urge them to be participant in it.
By this, we can develop citizens who are not only locally and nationally competent but can globally adjust to the rapid changes and they may be able to utilize the skills developed and cultivated by the teachers.
