There are ways in order to enhance and even intensify the reading comprehension of every learner, to wit:

  1. Teachers encourage metacognition.  Metacognition is thinking about thinking. The teachers should help the learners clarify the purpose of reading and know what they read and adjust their speed for better understanding.
  2. Teachers introduce graphic organizers.Graphic organizers show concepts and relationships between concepts of a text by using drawings or diagrams. Graphic organizers may be in the form of maps, webs, graphs, charts, frames, or clusters.
  3. Teachers lead the pupils to answer questions.  Let the pupils develop their comprehension by means of actively answering questions about the selection read. In doing this, the pupils will be able to vividly understand its contents.
  1. Teachers ask pupils to generate their questions.  Not only the books or any reading materials should be followed.  The teacher should let the pupils formulate their own questions for them to feel that they fully understand what they read.
  1. Teachers let pupils perceive story structure.  Have them be familiar with the characters, setting, events, problem and resolution of the story to develop better comprehension.
  1. Teachers instruct summarizing.  The teachers should require the learners summarize what they read.  In simple words, they should express the gist of what they understood.
  1. Teachers provide assistance. When difficulty arises, the teachers should serve as the helping hands to guide the pupils on understanding the concepts.
  1. Teachers model reading.  Whether in oral or silent, the teacher could be the best example of a good reader.  By exemplifying the epitome of a good reader, the attainment of this could be achieved.
  1. Teachers explain well.  Whatever uncertainty may be encountered in reading the teacher is there to explain well.
  1. Teachers maximize time for reading.  The teacher must allot more time for the pupils to spend in reading.  By means of this,  better comprehension can be attained.
