Math is a boring subject. This is a connotation which students can say especially if they encountered difficulties in learning the subject. Some of them do not attend their class or doing cutting classes because they feel bored. Even they attend the class; they don’t participate and lost their interest which gives unsatisfying result. These problems need an immediate solution so that students will bring back their interest in learning math. Mathematics should be taught with enjoyment.

There are different strategies/activities to be used for the students to enjoy Math without sacrificing learning. Games, game show, puzzles, demonstrations, outdoors activities and jingles are great help to motivate students and enjoy learning.

 

Games

            Integrating games to your discussion will give enjoyment to both students and teachers. It will make your students more participative and the class will be alive.  

 

Game Show

            Student will conduct a game show. If permitted, students may choose a game show like Celebrity Bluff, Wowowin, Laban o Bawi, Who Wants to be a Millionaire and try to gain some ideas about how to execute a game show.  In this activity, every skill of the students is useful and surely everyone will enjoy.

 

Puzzles

            With puzzle, critical thinking and logical reasoning develops. It can be a jumbled letters, solving and manipulative. 

 

Demonstration

            Create a situation wherein the students themselves are the role players. As John Dewey implies on his “Learning by Doing”, students will learn more if they can apply the theory that they learned. It is very interesting and challenging to demonstrate the skills needed in solving the problem/situations.

Outdoor Activities

            Learning should not only within the four corners of the classroom. Since many students love to go around the campus, why do teachers should not utilize the resources around the school campus? Outdoor activities such as measuring the area or perimeter of a certain garden and conducting a survey or mere observation to gather data will do, but it will be supervised by the teacher.

Jingles

            Utilize the talent of your students through Math jingle. Concepts, ideas, theory and postulates can be memorized with fun.

If every student will enjoy the activities given by the teacher, there is no room for the student to be bored and eventually, learning takes place for them.
