Physical Education has evolved and it’s no longer concerned on physical aspect alone but is interrelated with others.

Just recently, physical education has embraced the 21st century learning skills in order to make teaching better.

The contents of physical education aim to provide the students the opportunity to grow competently in risk taking, collaboration skills, critical thinking, creativity, communication and civic responsibility.

Physical education teaches risk taking. The students are being taught in establishing self-esteem and boosting their morale in order to face the risk that will yield good benefits to them most especially in developing physical competencies.

Physical education introduces collaboration skills. The MAPEH teacher lets the students develop the pooling or sharing of ideas and efforts in order to develop teamwork and camaraderie in achieving one goal for the group. Thus, if the members of the team work together better results will be produced.

Physical education promotes critical thinking. The physical body is not only being utilized in this area of learning. Instead, the students are being obliged to think critically and use their mental powers in facing challenges and in arriving at the better solutions.

Physical education implants creativity. The students expand their respective horizons for they are taught to be creative in the performance of tasks and activities concerning physical education. They are being shaped to be more inventive and resourceful in physical undertakings.

Physical education improves communication. The students are being developed to make use of communicative skills in order to convey better ideas and instructions to fellow learners in attaining better outputs. Consequently, if there is good communication better learning will be achieved.

Physical education instructs civic responsibility. The activities of students are not just confined in the school. There are times that they have to go out in order to perform related civic responsibilities.  They may serve as coach and mentor of the young ones who are starting to discover the basic physical education skills.

Physical education combined with the 21st century skills may lead to better results in learning.

As MAPEH teacher, we have to consider the combination that may be beneficial to our learners.
