WiFi is a technology that allows electronic devices to connect to a wireless LAN (WLAN) network to have an internet access. Internet provided us users to access different sites in education, social media, instant messages, videos etc. These sitescan be useful ormaybe a distraction.
Having an internet access is really beneficial in terms of studying. Students in secondary schools have plenty of research works in their subjects.Concepts and methods needed by the students in some experiments and research were easily downloaded.Books and reading materials for Filipino and AralingPanlipunan can be easily accessed in the internet. Books can now be downloaded as an ebook for the students to read. Formulas, methods, graphsand other lessons in math that is difficult to understand was easier because of online tutorials from the internet. For the teachers, they can search the internet ondifferent ways or methods of the lesson planning, making exams and reports. They can download videos regarding the lesson for their students to watch in order to make the lesson simpler or easier to understand. As of now, grades of the students were presented through a template that was downloaded in the deped website. They don’t have to use any calculator in the computation, they just have to input the scores and the grades will appear right away. For the staff, we don’t have to travel just to get deped orders, memos, advisories and other papers or submit reports to the division, regional or head office. We just get it and submit it through the deped website or through email. In this case we can save time and money.
On the contrary, there are also disadvantages of an easy internet access in school . Most of us have an account on different social mediasites(Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, etc) that can be easily accessedduring school and office hours. When doing some researchone can easily open a new tab for a new site for social media. Some students become less productive in school and loose interest in their lesson because they become focused on these sites. Some teachers has gadgets that can access these sites easily, that’s why instead of teaching and preparing for a lesson or attending a faculty meeting, they take a “selfies” and post status. Downloading videos and other teaching materials sometimes resulted in the laziness of the teacher because they do not teach anymore, they just present it in class and for the students to watch without any explanation from the teacher.Because of the easy access of information through the internet, teachers and students exert less effort in gaining knowledge, because some just do the “copy-paste” method.
Given thesepros and cons of having an easy internet access, is having a WiFi in school grounds really necessary?
