Public service reaches beyond responsibility alone. Truly, it is a privilege and honor to share the value of public service with others and be the next generation of leaders of the government. Support given by a public servant contributes primarily to build a better community. Nonetheless, trends in public service continuously change in the recent years and different breeds of professional public servants emerge. Similarly, the shadow of misbelief about public service diverted into a more positive perception leading to provision of high-quality outputs that the public choose to stay and trust public services once again.

While the working environment has never been easy as many temptations arise, the reputation for reliability prevails. As public servants, we should not aim for becoming rich; rather, to have an honorable heart that is genuine and loyal to gain public trust and confidence. In the growing obligations, public servants’ actions ensure no harm to future generations. Balancing the needs of many is a complex task and even the sharp-witted public servants make mistakes. Of course, public servants are human, yet, we assure everyone to take our duties seriously and do our very best for the welfare of public interest. Similarly, we should foster trusting relationships with the clients (public) and perform duty with utmost honesty and integrity. We must also act at all times to uphold public trust, take accountability for every action and aim for excellence in everything we do.

Ethical, committed, loyal and honest. These are the qualities that we, public servants have to cultivate upon ourselves. From the time we made an oath to serve the public, we should be expecting to face various challenges along the way. Many issues can be heard about government corruption, excessive red tape among others. These challenges will make us think and consider entering public service. But, rethink again. Perhaps, it is a true calling—the very reason why still, people are encouraged to be a part of government service.

And if you consider getting a job as public servant, then go for it! Just remember that more than monetary benefits, there is a great sense of pride and honor in it. Serving the public, earning public trust shall go a long way in making a difference, in bringing forth a better country.
