“Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are,” says Mother Teresa.
Being a teacher for almost twenty-seven years, I can’t help but to reflect on the reasons that have made me stay and remain in this profession – teaching.
There must have been a number of factors that could have vented me to pursue other endeavors such as business venture, working abroad, or I could have just stopped and see what is going to happen.
There were times when you’ve been pushed to the edge, being fed up with the routinely work, and then one day an opportunity pops up, drives your tired spirit, moves you forward, freshens up your dried emotions to a certain outburst of energy – call it drive or inspiration and there you are – a spirit filled with joy and enthusiasm.
Completely and like a cycle – our emotions run up and down, bend with the mood of the situations – positive and negative until it brings you to the realization of WHO YOU REALLY ARE in the midst of every trial.
In the end, you realize that it is not the people; it is not who they are, but who you are that makes you who you really are.
Ultimately, it is your inner self that makes you valuable; it is your values, the important things you believe in such as humility, kindness, love, hope, and faith. – Humility in the midst of failure and embarrassments; Kindness in trying moments of anger and frustrations; Love in the middle of hypocrisy and insincerity; Hope when everything seems impossible; and Faith that proves God still exists. These are the thoughts that build you up, make you strong and flexible in life’s many winding chapters of either good or bad.
Take it from Mother Teresa’s words… it’s who you are, not who they are and what they do that sustain you.
